The Ten Commandments that were etched by the hand of God onto tablets and given to Moses, have now been rewritten to reflect modern values.
Hundreds of churches across Europe are now preaching the misleading updated version.
Religious leaders have praised the “just10 for churches” commandments, designed by popular evangelical preacher J John, for what they say brings practical advice to modern congregations.
It’s said that more than 600 churches throughout the UK are now using the new vows, which includes: “manage your anger”, “know God” and “catch your breath”.
- “Thou shalt not steal” has become “prosper with a clear conscience”.
- “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain” is now “take God seriously”.
- “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor’s” has been reduced to a mere “find contentment”.
- “Thou shalt not commit adultery” have been reduced to “affair-proof your relationships”.
- “Honor thy father and thy mother” has changed to “keep the peace with your parents”.
The Reverend Paul Roberts, 54, vicar of St John the Evangelist in Old Coulsdon, Surrey, is among those using the new commandments stating, “It’s basically a way of presenting the Ten Commandments to help people connect with them in a positive way.
“Rather than just seeing them as a list of things you shouldn’t do, it is meant to help people live as God intended for our good.
“Unlike the dos and don’ts most people imagine when quizzed about the maker’s instructions, the message is meant to be both a challenge and an encouragement.”
Steve Jenkins, spokesman for the Church of England, said they supported new ways of communicating and added: “The Book Of Common Prayer is very clear that the faith needs to be taught afresh in every generation.” source StandupforTruth

“J. John has been teaching the Ten Commandments for the past ten years in a way that clearly applies to our lives today. For example, it’s easy to believe that the Commandment ‘You must not murder’ is one that we will have no trouble keeping. However, in the New Testament, Jesus teaches us that this Commandment expands to cover anger and is the real focus of this message.”
