Citizens Can now Protect Themselves from Police in Indiana

(Newsroom America) — Indiana has become the first state to legally permit residents to shoot at police if they feel their property is being illegally breached by an officer.

Proponents of the law, including its author, state Sen. Michael Young and the National Rifle Association, say it was necessary following a state Supreme Court ruling last year which said “there is no right to reasonably resist unlawful entry by police officers,” Young told Bloomberg News.

The measure amends the 2006 so-called Castle Doctrine bill that allows deadly force to stop illegal entry into a home or car. The term “public servant” was added following the court’s ruling.

Opponents of the measure, especially police organizations, say it is a recipe for disaster.

“If I pull over a car and I walk up to it and the guy shoots me, he’s going to say, ‘Well, he was trying to illegally enter my property,'” 17-year veteran police Sgt. Joseph Hubbard, of the Jeffersonville, Ind., police department, said. “Somebody is going get away with killing a cop because of this law.”

I disagree with Sgt. Hubbard! Citizens have a God given right to defend their homes, property, family and person against any aggressive behavior. Even if it is a police officer.

Many police officers abuse their badge because they allow power to go to their heads. They think their badges give them the right to harash and intimidate Joe Public.

Haven’t you noticed when you are stopped by an officer they always manage to inquire where you are going or where have you been? It’s really none of their business. Some even ask if they can search your car. What’s up with that? They don’t need to be looking through my personal belongings without a search warrant. My car is my home away from home.

A citizen is equally at risk of being shot by a police officer as an officer is of being shot by a citizen.

Cops use the excuse that things have changed over the years and that there is more violence…… That citizens once respected the law. That’s true. However, citizens use to could trust the cops.

There are many cops that are wife beating, intimidating, money laundering, drug dealing, and power hungry who patrol our streets. Many have been caught planting evidence on citizens.

Theses dirty cops seem to think because they have a badge, they are above the law and the citizens they swore to protect.

That being said, there are also many respectable police officers who love their jobs, uphold the constitution and work for the betterment of their communities. Those I commend!
