The Elderly Are Expendable

01Debate about the reality of a two-decade pause in global warming and what it means has made its way from the sceptical fringe to the mainstream.  David Whitehouse of the Global Warming Policy Foundation said that “The global temperature standstill shows that climate models are diverging from observations. If we have not passed it already, we are on the threshold of global observations becoming incompatible with the consensus theory of climate change.”  Whitehouse goes on to argues that whatever has happened to make temperatures remain constant requires an explanation because the pause in temperature rise has occurred despite a sharp increase in global carbon emissions.

In a lengthy article this week, The Economist magazine said if climate scientists were credit-rating agencies, than climate sensitivity – the way climate reacts to changes in carbon-dioxide levels – would be on negative watch but not yet downgraded.   The world has added roughly 100 billion tons of carbon to the atmosphere between 2000 and 2010, about one-quarter of all the carbon dioxide put there by humans since 1750.   This mismatch between rising greenhouse gas emissions and not-rising temperatures is among the biggest puzzles in climate science just now.  “But it does not mean global warming is a delusion.”

He is right in one respect – it is not a delusion – it is a scam dreamed up by Socialists involved within the United Nations to steal our wealth and control our lives.   It has no basis in science or reality but it does have consequences.

Fraser Nelson at the The Telegraph laments that saving  elderly British lives has somehow become the least fashionable cause in politics.  Each year the British government estimates the number of “excess winter mortality” – the number of people dying of cold related illnesses.  The winter of 2011-12 was relatively mild yet 24,000 elderly died.   It is estimated that this year’s brutal winter will have claimed 30,000 lives.  Yet no one seems to care.  The idea of people, especially the elderly dying in their homes seems relatively boring.

No one wears a wristband or a pin on a ribbon for the elderly victims of the cold and yet freezing weather kills more than diabetes or breast cancer.  The cause is familiar and the remedy too obvious to attract much attention.

In 2003 Sir David King, the government’s chief scientific officer, used the heat wave that claimed 2,000 lives to proclaim  that climate change was “more serious even than the threat of terrorism” in terms of the number of lives that could be lost.   Before long, every political party in Britain had sold their souls to the “green agenda.”

Yet, since  Sir David’s exhortations, some 250,000 Brits have died from the cold and  only 10,000 from the heat.  Instead of making sure energy was affordable, ministers have been deliberately making it more expensive through their “green agenda,” with carbon price floors and emissions trading schemes.  Fuel prices have doubled over seven years, forcing millions to choose between heat and food.

As is typical of failed schemes, the government  blames the energy companies, totally  ignoring their  duplicity in the matter.   Yet in the Energy and Climate Change report released last week, the government reports that fuel prices are expected to increase another 76 lbs by 2020, but, in small print, so no one will notice, they also report that if you remove the hidden carbon price floor and emissions trading schemes, consumers could be paying 123 lbs less.   In a saner world shouldn’t the government be attempting not to make energy “greener” but more affordable?

That is the future of America.   As Obama continues to cripple the fossil fuel industry, as the EPA keeps piling regulation upon regulation, the cost to heat and cool our homes has doubled in the last few years.   As gasoline prices continue to rise, the price of everything we eat, purchase,  or use has increased, while our paychecks have not kept pace.   You can’t squeeze blood from a turnip and  yet, the EPA is attempting to do just that.  A new EPA proposed regulation released on Friday  aims to reduce sulfur in gasoline by more  than 60 percent in 2017.

Increases in gas prices disproportionately hurt the nation’s most vulnerable  individuals and families –  with $4 dollar a gallon gas the norm in many parts  of the country, we cannot afford policies that knowingly raises gas prices,”  Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich., said in a statement.  “The Obama administration cannot be more out of touch. With hard-pressed  families already struggling to afford each fill-up, Congress needs to take a  hard look at any new EPA regulation that may raise the price at the pump.”

And that is all they will do – take a look.  Congress has had ample opportunity to stand up for their constituents but all we get is talk.  The House controls the purse strings – they could have nipped all these regulations and “green energy’ scams in the bud.  Talk is cheap, at least for politicians, but its dang expensive for those of us forced to pay for the global warming  scam!
