According to the latest from Obama  “The United States supported democracy in Egypt.  It’s been challenging given there has not been a tradition of democracy in Egypt.”   And he seriously thought that would happen under the Muslim Brotherhood?  Give me a break.

The current protestors (Tamarod movement) in Egypt are accusing America (Obama) of “uniting with the Brotherhood to bring down the Egyptian people.”

The conundrum for Obama is that while Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood government did come to power in a questionable democratic election, it has done nothing but undermined the institutional pillars of Egypt’s fledgling democracy, including the judiciary and the media, in an attempt to consolidate absolute power. The Brotherhood has also embraced a “jihad” in Syria at a time when Egyptians at home face extreme economic instability and stagnation.

Morsi insists  he will sacrifice his life for his (power grab) “constitutional legitimacy.”   A few hours later, the Egyptian military upped the ante by pledging their own blood to free their nation from the Muslim Brotherhood’s autocracy.

On Wednesday, the military kept their pledge by ousting Morsi and replacing him with a chief justice of the Supreme Constitutional Court until new presidential elections can be held.  And, they suspened the Islamist Brotherhood backed Constitution.

If Obama had stayed out of the “Arab Spring,” and not funded the Brotherhood, Egpyt might now have a government that they wanted – not a regime they were coerced into accepting.

“When the government’s boot is on your throat, whether it is a left boot or a right boot is of no consequence.”  Gary Lloyd
