Big gulp soft drink bans, requiring distillers to provide nutritional information on bottles of scotch, vodka or Rye, and using the term “a person of interest” instead of saying the word “suspect” in a criminal investigation are just a few of the ways PC activists got their foot in the door. Now they are planning to take their “foot” to even higher utopian measures.
When they said Justice was Blind, I don’t think they had in mind a proposed New York City bill that would limit the amount of information police could provide on a criminal suspect only to the clothing worn at the commission of the crime.
The bill would leave police open to lawsuits if they “profiled” a “criminal” by mentioning whether the individual was male or female, estimate how old he or she is, indicate whether the individual is white, black, or Hispanic or point out any physical disability such as a limp. Why not just issue blindfolds with the uniform?
In a typical Obama move, the bill’s sponsor, Jumaane Williams (D-Brooklyn), and Speaker Christine Quinn say they plan to bypass the normal committee process because one member is refusing to let it out of committee. And, even a bit more scary is the claim that a “majority of council members support the measure.”
Williams and fellow Brooklyn Democrat Brad Lander, a co-sponsor of the proposal, say it would only expand the city’s existing racial-profiling law by adding other demographic groups that should be protected, such as the homeless and gay people. What about law-abiding citizens – do they not deserve protection?
