Blind To Terror

0001The State Department recently confirmed that a locally employed staff member of the U.S. Embassy was detained on January 25 and is being held as yet without charges.  They also confirmed once again that the government does not view the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

The government’s position of outreach to Muslim nations began after the 1993 World Trade Center bombing by the Clinton’s and was continued during the Bush administration.  But Obama has far exceeded any other president (and first lady) in his attempt to white-wash the  Brotherhood.

Patrick S. Poole, a counterterrorism consultant and an investigative reporter on terrorism and national security issues published his report “Blind To Terror” in which he laid out the extent of Obama’s partnership with this terrorist organization.

Despite a ban prohibiting  formal contacts with organizations with long-standing ties to terrorism, the FBI has continued its partnership with the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).  The FBI’s response to a DOJ   investigation into this relationship, began in March of 2012,  was to simply rewrite guidelines allowing them to associate with the Brotherhood and other terrorist organizations  as long as those organizations “perform some legitimate function.”    By legitimate function I’m assuming they adopted Senator Patty Murray’s definition.  She actually defended al-Qaeda as not being that bad because they helped pay to build schools, roads, and day care centers.

Of course they should use some that terrorist money to rebuild the roads they blew up but as far as building schools, someone should inform Senator Murray that most of those schools are used to teach children how to commit acts of terrorism.

The FBI’s new guidelines help explain why Mohamed Majid, a named co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial, is now greeted with open arms at the White House.  Majid, a frequent visitor,  was Obama’s advisor for his 2013 trip to the Middle East.  Majid’s  forerunner, Abdul Rahamn an-Amoudi, an al-Qaeda fundraiser, was also welcomed with open arms.

Another terrorist leader “rehabilitated” by the Obama Administration is Salam al-Marayati, president of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), who recently appeared as a member of the official US delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe conference on human rights held in 2012.  Al-Marayati is a Hamas and Hezbollah supported and has likened terrorists to American Patriots such as  Patrick Henry, along with calling suicide bombings “legitimate resistance.”

In 2012, Hani Nour Eldin, a member of al-Gama’s al-Islamiyya, another designated terrorist group, was invited to meet with Obama’s national security staff to discuss his demand that their leader, Omar Abdel Rahman, the “Blind Sheikh”  be released from federal prison.  The “Sheikh” is behind bars for his role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the planned follow-up “Day of Terror” attacks.    Following an uproar over  Eldin’s invitation,  Janet Napolitano made it very clear during Congressional hearings that other members of  terrorists groups would also be welcomed.

Ali Nafie, an architect of two genocides, received an invitation from the State Department as part of a Sudanese delegation in May 2012.  Not only was Nafi  head adviser to the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, himself under indictment by the International Criminal Court, but he was also the longtime intelligence chief for the Islamist regime in Khartoum where he admitted to torturing civilians. In addition, Nafie had a close relationship with Osama bin Ladin during his stay in Sudan during the early 1990s.

Obama’s Muslim Brotherhood umbrella organization tasked with leading this outreach effort,  American Muslims for Constructive Engagement, is headed by a former high-ranking Sudanese genocide henchman, Abubakar al-Shingieti, who served as Sudan President al-Bashir’s spokesman and later director of public affairs.  His tenure coincided with the genocide of Christians  and animists in southern Sudan.

This umbrella group was instrumental in “assisting” the FBI with the removal of any reference to “radical Islam” from the National Security Strategy.  When Congressman Louis Gohmert, R-TX challenged the removal of these terms from the Counterterrorism Analytical Lexicon, the FBI had the nerve to say that the Lexicon he cited didn’t exist.  Unfortunately for the FBI, hard copies of this nonexistent Lexicon had already been distributed to all counterterrorism agents in the field and electronic copies were available on the FBI’s intranet.

In January 2010, Janet Napolitano hosted a two-day meeting with Islamic groups at taxpayer’s expense.  Several of the attendees represented organizations named as unindicted co-conspirators at the Holy Land Foundation trial as well as fronts for the Muslim Brotherhood.  According to documents obtained by Judicial Watch through a FOIA request,  DHS had proposed inviting Hamas operative Kifah Mustapha, who had been removed from his position as Chaplain for the Illinois State Police under the advice of the FBI Chicago Field Office for his support of terrorists.  And while he never was officially invited, as part of Obama’s outreach program, Mustapha was allowed to participate in the FBI Citizens Academy program in August of that year and given a tour of top secret facilities.

Imad Hamad, who had been in a battle for two decades with immigration and Naturalization in their attempts to deport him for his ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, did attend Napolitano’s party.

Another Obama outreach partner, Hatem Abudayyeh, had his home raided in 2010 as part of a multi-state federal investigation into funding of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

In 2011 Obama invited various leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood front groups to meet with DHS, DOJ, the State Department, the FBI and the National Counterterrorism Center to further “develop” his outreach policies.  As a result of the meeting, Obama issued a directive in August of that year ordering law enforcement to engage “community partners” to help combat “violent extremism,” a reference to conservatives, veterans, Christians and other groups he considered “right-wing.”  This directive  included rules requiring law enforcement to “remove their shoes before entering a mosque” and forbidding police dogs on the property.

Bolstered by these new policies, the Brotherhood front groups sent a letter to John Brennan demanding a government wide purge of all counterterrorism training materials, removal of books from libraries in various agencies, the mandatory re-education of FBI agents, punishment for government employees who taught anything the group considered “bias,” and the permanent blacklist of any trainer they considered “bigoted and biased.”   Brennan  assured Obama that a task force was already on it.   Then other government agencies jumped in with gusto and held their own meeting with the same front groups to assure  them that the “Islamophobia”  purge was on.

At a meeting held at George Washington University between top DOJ officials and representatives of the front groups where according to a report by Neil Munro of the Daily Caller, several Muslim leaders called for the creation of criminal and civil  penalties for “anyone ”  who advocated positions they deemed offensive.  Among those present was Mohamed Majid who said that “teaching people that all Muslims are a threat. . .is against the  law and the U.S. Constitution.  [He must have read Obama’s personal redacted copy].

The April 2013 Boston bombing occurred in this atmosphere of government sponsored purges, book bans, speech codes, and blacklists.  It is hardly surprising that the FBI chose not to follow through on any investigation of  Tsarnaev when Obama was deliberately erasing any ability to connect the dots that would have flagged his contacts with extremists overseas, his promotion of terrorist groups on YouTube, and his association with the Boston mosque that had previously spawned other terrorists.

The same applies to the Fort Hood massacre by Army Major Nidal Hasan in 2009, which the White House  “white washed”  as “workplace violence.”  This official “blindness” to Hasan’s motivations are unquestionably the consequences of the government’s partnership with terrorist organizations.

And not just content with not pursuing terror investigations, as in the case of Hasan and Tsarnaev, Obama has taken a more proactive approach to shutting down terror investigations when they involve his Muslim outreach partners.  In 2011, a top DOJ official noted that senior DOJ officials had quashed the indictment of CAIR cofounder Omar Ahmad in March 2010, along with other Islamic leaders, in the second round of prosecutions related to the Holy Land Foundation case.   When it became known  Holder tried to blame the Bush administration, but  finally had to admit that the decision to quash the prosecution was made by “political appointees.”

The Obama administration has also intervened to kill any terror-related prosecutions of other senior Islamic leaders in the U.S.   The planned prosecution of a dozen different leaders on racketeering, money laundering, obstruction of justice, tax evasion, and naturalization fraud was also squashed by these “political appointees.”

Obama has taken extraordinary measures to protect the Muslim Brotherhood.  Ultimately, the present policy implications of Obama’s  protection has meant the blinding of our homeland security apparatus to repeated acts of terrorism at home, costing Americans their lives, and insulating the diplomatic establishment from international realities at the expense of our peace and security abroad.

What pathology can explain how prosecutors can identify Muslim leaders and organizations as supporters of terrorism in federal court and at the same time high-ranking government officials embrace these same leaders and organizations as moderates and heatedly defend their inclusion as outreach partners?  The answer might only lie in the realm of theology and not psychology.
