Killing Us Silently with Glyphosate

gmoAccording to a CDC report in March of 2014, 1 in 68 children have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the US, a rate that has increased 30% just since 2012.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) describes a range of conditions classified as neurodevelopment disorders and can include autism, Asperger Syndrome, Rett Syndrome and other developmental disorders not specifically identified, all of which cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges that can range from gifted to severely challenged. Scientists have yet to discover the exact causes of ASD but research suggests that both genes and the environment play significant roles.

At a conference sponsored by the Groton Wellness organization, Dr. Stephanie Seneff an MIT researcher, presented  data showing a consistent correlation between glyphosate toxicity and the rise in autism, noting that they closely mimic one another. As a statement of fact, Dr. Seneff said that since Monsanto’s Roundup became a flagship weed killer in 1990, the number of children with ASD soared from 1 in 5,000 to 1 in 68.  While not proof positive, it does make you think!

Corn and soy products, all soft drinks and candies sweetened with corn syrup and all chips and cereals that contain soy fillers have small amounts of glyphosate in them, as do our beef and poultry as cattle and chicken feed contain GMO corn or soy. Wheat is often sprayed with Roundup just prior to being harvested so all nonorganic bread and wheat products could also be sources of glyphosate toxicity. While the amount of glyphosate in each product isn’t large, the cumulative effect, especially with the amount of processed foods Americans consume, could be devastating.

Plant killing glyphosate is so abundant in the environment that it is beginning to show up in our urine and blood samples. A recent study showed that pregnant women living near farms where Roundup was used have a 60% increased risk of children having an ASD. Another pilot study by Moms Across America and Sustainable Pulse showed that concentrations of glyphosate in breast milk was at 760 to 1600 times larger than pesticide limits set by European drinking water directives.

Studies have also shown that shown that glyphosate breaks down the blood brain barrier, allowing toxins into the brain. Other studies show that glyphosate is a chelator, which deprives any living thing it comes in contact with, of its vital nutrients, vitamins and mineral. Vitamin deficiency is a consistent occurrence in all patients with cancer.

Team researchers in Germany and Egypt discovered not only that animals fed GM feed retained high levels of glyphosate in their urine and organs but that glyphosate directly interferes with the bodies P450 enzymes that play a crucial role in the biology of human gut bacteria, tasked with detoxifying xenobiotics, allowing the effects of other environmental toxins and chemicals in the body to overtake the immune system, welcoming inflammation and a variety of illnesses, including autism, gastrointestinal damage, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, infertility, dementia and cancer.

Glyphosate is the number one ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide. While the EPA is doubling, and in some cases quadrupling the amount of allowable glyphosate residue on certain foods, a wealth of independent research has been published affirming the toxicity of glyphosate and GMO crops, as well as linking glyphosate to Colony Collapse Disorder that wiped out most of America’s honeybee population.

Monsanto, aided and abetted by the USDA, FDA, and the ruling elite have created an out-of control chemical roller coaster as farmers are now facing glyphosate tolerant superbugs and superweeds.   We were told that GMOs would herald the use of less agricultural chemicals worldwide, but in fact, one study found that herbicide use increased a whopping 527 million pounds during the first 15 years of widespread GMO crops.

Most developed nations do not consider GMOs to be safe. In more than 60 countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production and sale of GMOs. In the U.S., the government has approved GMOs based on studies conducted by the same corporations that created them and profit from their sale. Increasingly, Americans are choosing to opt out of the GMO experiment which is not always easy since the powerful biotech lobby has succeeded in keeping GMOs unlabeled.

I often wonder, and I wish someone would research it if they haven’t already, whether the CEOs of Monsanto, Dupont, etc., eat GMO products and feed them to their families, or if they send out their ‘personal shoppers’ to the local farmer’s market to bring home fresh, organic produce every week? I suspect the latter. I’m quite sure they all have reverse osmosis water systems in their mansions. Let me put it bluntly, if I haven’t been clear so far.
