Fetal tissue obtained from spontaneous abortions and ectopic pregnancies has been part of scientific research for years. The 1950s polio vaccine was developed from fetal kidney cells as was the production of a widely used measles vaccine. But after Roe v. Wade legalized the murder of innocent babies, the use of fetal tissue in research became what Arthur Caplan, a bioethicist at NYU Langone Medical Center called a “ticking time bomb of medical ethics.”
The Ethics of using aborted babies for research may be a “ticking time bomb” but it is a time bomb largely ignored by researchers, some of whom already see a possible future of soliciting women to become breeders for tissue donation. To me, the idea of conceiving life solely to kill it is repugnant because it treats babies as things rather than humans.
Until such time as the left leeches all morality from society, current researchers will have to be satisfied with buying the baby body parts they need. Technically it is against the law for abortion clinics to “knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer any human fetal tissue” for money if the transfer “affects interstate commerce.” But, if there is money to be made from harvesting organs and body parts from aborted babies, make no mistake, there are organizations and corporations more than willing to profit from the blood money.
Arguments Against Fetal Tissue Trafficking, explains how easy it is for researchers and abortion clinics to circumvent the law by selling aborted babies to wholesalers who pays the abortion clinic a “site fee” to place “procurement agents” whose job it is to harvest body parts as soon as the murder of the child has taken place and then “donate” that harvest to various research institutes who are billed for the cost of retrieval. Even Murder, Inc. has a reference to “donating” fetal tissue on their website. Planned Parenthood, like other abortion centers, profits from not only the murder of a child but in the trafficking of its remains.
So, what do researchers do with all these baby parts?
Eugene Gu of Ganogen, Inc. announced that they were working on a new technique to increase the availability of organs for transplants. Their research shows that it is feasible to remove a kidney from an aborted baby and implant it into a rat where it is left to grow to a larger size. This is the first time, according to Gu, that “an actual whole human organ has been grown in an animal and has sustained the life of that animal.” In the short term, these organs will only be used to test drugs that can’t be tested in living humans but the long term goal is to transplant these organs into larger animals such as pigs where they could grow big enough for human transplant.
Arthur Caplan, a bioethicist at NYU Langone Medical Center said that “there is no way we’re ever going to use fetal human kidneys or any other solid organ for transplant. American society is morally uncomfortable enough about abortion that growing organs from fetal remains will never be accepted and will be banned in state after state.” I hope he is right but I don’t think he is. Money talks!
On an ironic note, pro-abortion activists claim that unborn babies are nothing more than a blob of tissue, a smear on a test tube. If an unborn baby is nothing but a product of conception, or a blob of tissue, how can scientists obtain human organs from them?
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should! What happens if and when this new fetal tissue organ harvesting procedure becomes successful? The way society is headed, I’m afraid you’d probably see a bunch of blood-sucking for-profit medical corporations setting up fetal abortion farms just to harvest organs.
