Sexual Libertinism Run Amok

thWesleyan University is a private liberal arts Baccalaureate College in Middletown, Connecticut, founded in 1831, under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church, with the support of prominent residents of Middletown.  The now secular university was the first institution of higher education to be named after John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, and has become the latest in a chain of Christian founded universities to fall to political correctness.

Just this year Delta Kappa Epsilon filed suit against the university after being told that male fraternities would have to admit women on the allegations of “sexual discrimination” and “false and deceptive practices.” According to the lawsuit, Wesleyan has taken sexual libertinism too far. The University sponsors undergraduate Program Houses such as the Light House for Christian students and the Women of Color House and their refusal to allow male fraternity brothers to reside in single-sex housing is contradictory to their “willingness to allow many other diverse groups to reside together.

According to the college, the decision was made to force male fraternities to accept women in an effort to solve the sexual assault problem on campus. “Because fraternities are male-exclusive and the possessors of some of our campus’ largest party spaces, they explicitly and implicitly cultivate a gender-based power dynamic that privileges men, the hosts, over women, who are among their guests…encouraging women to repay men for their hospitality, often with sex, and men are institutionally provided with a control over their guests, especially women.” Translation: Men rape poor helpless women who come to their parties but ignore the women who live under the same roof. Somehow the logic of that argument escapes me!

Wesleyan, not to be outdone by other far-left universities, already offers numerous politically correct housing choices on campus for everyone – except straight men.   A prime example of diversity run amok is “Open House” – housing to accommodate gender-confused students that fall under the rainbow umbrella of LBGTTQQFAGOPBDSM. For those not tuned in to the new world of invented gender identities, LGBTTQQFAGOPBDSM represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, flexural, asexual, gender***, polyamorous, bondage/disciple, dominance/submission, and sadism/masochism.

Diversity demands special privileges for some that always results in discrimination against others. But what has all this political correctness and diversity gained for our culture?

College campuses are less tolerant than ever before. Too many campuses choose to wall themselves off from differing ideas through anti-bullying or speech codes that attempt to prove an ipso facto restraint on free speech. Too many teachers use the classroom for indoctrination rather than education. Professors bash conservatives and Christians openly in the classroom, intimidating students and even lowering grades for those who do not support their politically correct views. People who hold traditional Christian views on marriage are dismissed as bigoted, homophobic, or in need of being cured.

The diversity movement has wrapped itself in the wrong-headed idea that “I am my views,” which tends to put people of color, the Homosexual crowd and others claiming non-white ethnic heritage in a privileged position beyond criticism. In their eyes everything becomes an ad hominem attack and is therefore out-of-bounds.

As our traditional values continue to be expelled from college campuses, the void is being filled by a false sense of diversity. And ironically, that “diversity” has given rise to the same preferential treatment to various politically correct groups that liberals love to accuse the right of enjoying. It is past time to acknowledge that diversity results in a closed-off world that stifles debate, learning, and mutual respect.
