Everthing Is Now A Mental Illness

aHow do left-wing goons turn the Second Amendment into a cultural war to deny “unfavorable” classes of people their rights?

First, you claim that all returning veterans have post-traumatic syndrome, whether they are being treated for it or not, making it easier to deny them their Second Amendment Rights.  Second, you convince society that anyone on Social Security or disability who has to have help with their finances should never be allowed to own a gun because, as everyone knows, people who can’t manage money are of “subnormal intelligence, mentally ill, incompetent or diseased.

The leftist goons even managed to get some of those who support our Second Amendment rights cornered by ceding that as a condition of a declaration of mental illness, people should be denied guns. Now while that may seem a fair argument, you have to consider who actually defines mental illness.

Psychology Today defines “A mental disorder as a syndrome characterized by clinically significant disturbance in an individual’s cognition, emotion regulation, or behavior that reflects a dysfunction in the psychological, biological, or developmental processes underlying mental functioning…. An expectable or culturally approved response to a common stressor or loss, such as the death of a loved one, is not a mental disorder. Socially deviant behavior (e.g., political, religious, or sexual) and conflicts that are primarily between the individual and society are not mental disorders unless the deviance or conflict results from a dysfunction in the individual, as described above.”

Yet, with the 2013 publication of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual, 5th edition used by clinicians, researchers, drug regulation agencies, health insurance and pharmaceutical companies, the legal system and various UN so-called health organizations, Obama and the American Psychiatric Association joined hands to declared everything a mental illness. This latest edition constitutes a subjective approach to diagnosing mental illness in that it promises to end free speech, the Second Amendment, and any form of political dissent.

Have you spent the last 6 months worrying about medical issues? Then you’re suffering from Somatic Symptom Disorder. If you have experienced intense sorrow and emotional pain attempting to deal with the death of a loved one then you have an Adjustment Disorder or Persistent Complex Bereavement Disorder, or both. Do you spend too much time shopping? Then you probably have Compulsive Shopping Disorder. Never saw a doughnut you could pass up? Perhaps you are a compulsive eater with Binge Eating Disorder. If you spend too much time at the gym you have Bigorexia or Muscle Dysmorphia.   Unlucky 13 freak you out? Don’t worry its only Triskaidekaphobia. Are you a returning veteran? Then you absolutely have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Spend too much time on the Net then you’re just mentally unstable. If you don’t trust the government or had the audacity to joined a patriot or tea party group you have paranoid ideation better known as Oppositional Defiant Disorder.

Using the same junk science, (if you actually believe psychology is a science) if you’re against special rights for homosexuals and same-sex marriage then you’re homophobic, and, if you’re homophobic then you’re hostile, and if you’re hostile then you probably are mentally ill. And well, if you’re mentally ill, then no to guns. Don’t think homophobia is a mental illness?

Well, here’s a thought experiment:  A recent study of 560 Italian university students began with the preconceived idea that  “discrimination toward homosexuals must be condemned” and concluded that if you object to actions by gay people, there’s automatically wrong with you, meaning you are probably conservative or religious.

In listing causes of homophobia, the authors of the study wrote: “Religion plays a pivotal role in homophobic prejudice, and it should be always considered, because a conservative ideology assuming sexual orientation as a moral value is prevalent among the older generations.”   I’d call that a bias against old and religious people. But I’m not a psychologist.   In any case, grafting the study onto America, let’s see where this is going. After all, “homophobia is conditioned by gender, political orientation, religion, nationality, and age,” right?

People who have conservative ideologies or are religious (especially you old people) are more likely to be homophobic, according to that  “scientific” unbiased study.  People who are psychotic or have “immature defense mechanisms’ (“maladaptive coping mechanisms”) tend to be homophobic, according to that unbiased  “scientific” study.  So, it is only a small leap in the logic pool to conclude that people who are conservative or religious tend to be psychotic and have immature defense mechanisms.

Coincidentally, people who are conservative and religious also tend to support the Bill of Rights, meaning they support the right of individuals to own guns.   Obviously, there’s a correlation between Second Amendment supporters and homophobia.

However, since we’re not yet ready as a society to classify conservatism or religious beliefs a mental illness (and it’s only a matter of time), what better way to deny those people their guns than to classify homophobia (mostly among the religious and conservative, as the authors say) as a mental illness?

This is the new Soviet style political schizophrenia. A phobia is just as dangerous as a sociopath. What Obama is doing comes straight out of “The Naked Communist” by Cleon Skousen, 1958. Goal 38 of the 46 goals of the Communist Party in America is to “treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders” which no one but psychiatrist and the left can define or treat.

Thank you. When Obama first started his schtick pushing returning vets to seek psychiatric care for ptsd, I told everyone who would listen that it was a subterfuge – just ploy for gun control. No one would listen and called me nuts. Why is it that the end intent to so much of what Obama says is obvious if you pay close attention to what he says and compare it to his background? But, people tend to dismiss what he says or take umbrage with it at the moment instead of seeing it what for what it is. Obama shows his hand before he does anything, but people just want listen to what he is really saying.
