Altered Genes, Twisted Truth

01“Sin has many tools, but a lie is the handle which fits them all.”  Oliver Wendell Holmes

Although the US has the strictest food safety laws in the world governing new additives, the FDA has allowed genetically manipulated foods, one of the most serious threats not only to our environment but to our health, to evade those laws. Monsanto could never have implemented their global food takeover strategy had the groundwork not been laid by the deceptions of a number of prominent molecular biologists that began during the 1970’s.

A lawsuit filed in May 1998 by attorney Steven Druker challenged the FDA’s claim that genetically engineered (GE) foods were safe and could be used without a shred of safety testing. During the discovery process the FDA was forced to hand over more than 44,000 pages of internal files relevant to the policies they made concerning EG foods.

In his new book Altered Genes, Twisted Truth, Druker lays bare the damning memos from FDA scientists assigned to the biotechnology task force whose job it was to analyze and assess GE foods in terms of both the law and science, and to perform a risk assessment. These memos showed that the FDA was operating for years under a policy to promote the US biotechnology industry, having decided in the beginning that it was more important than telling the world the truth about GE foods.

Much like the “scientific consensus” used for the global warming scam, the FDA claimed a scientific consensus for the safety of GE foods, foods that even their own scientists said “entailed unique risks and could not be presumed safe.” One letter included in the book is from Dr. James Maryanski, a FDA biotechnology coordinator to an official of Health Canada, dated just six months before the FDA’s ruling on GE foods which stated that there was no consensus about the safety of GE foods within the scientific community.

Genetic engineering first became a reality in the early 1970s and at that time, it was a radical breakthrough. According to Nobel-laureate biologist George Wald, it was the biggest and most radical human intervention into the natural order that had ever occurred. Even the scientists involved were mindful of how radical it was and how important it was to be careful. Initially, the scientists themselves warmed of the dangers of this new technology and how it had to be used with extreme prudence and caution. However, as they received negative feedback from the public they were “forced” to “alter” their initial concern about the safety of this new technology and present a united front of confidence.

A huge lobbying campaign was launched in the summer of 1977 orchestrated to convince Congress that there was no need to regulate genetic engineering, offering false claims of evidence of its safety that did not exist. The biotech industry and its open purse were successful.

One of the points made in the book is that the burden of proof always placed on new technologies and new products requiring the developer to substantiate their safety claims, got shifted because of the subterfuge and fraud, and America got shafted.

According to The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) the FDA’s decided to unleash GE foods upon the general population has created numerous health problems.  Studies have shown that thousands of sheep, buffalo, and goats in India died after grazing on Bt cotton plants; mice fed GM corn had fewer, and smaller, babies; more than half the babies of mother rats fed GM soy died within three weeks; testicle cells of mice and rats on a GE soy change significantly; most GE soy-fed hamsters, by the third generation, were sterile; rodents fed GE corn and soy showed immune system responses and signs of toxicity; cooked GE soy contains as much as 7-times the amount of a known soy allergen; soy allergies skyrocketed by 50% in the UK, soon after GE soy was introduced; the stomach lining of rats fed GE potatoes showed excessive cell growth, a condition that may lead to cancer; studies into GE foods showed organ lesions, altered liver and pancreas cells, changed enzyme levels, etc.

Unlike safety evaluations for drugs, there are no human clinical trials of GE foods. The safety assessments are too superficial to even identify most of the potential dangers from GE foods. The only published human feeding experiment revealed that the genetic material inserted into genetically modified soy transfers into bacteria living inside our intestines and continues to function. This means that long after we stop eating GE foods, we may still have their GE proteins produced continuously inside us. This could mean that if the antibiotic gene inserted into most GE crops were to transfer, it could create super diseases, resistant to antibiotics; and, if the gene that creates Bt-toxin in GE corn were to transfer, it might turn our intestinal bacteria into living pesticide factories.

The genetic modification of food is intrinsically dangerous. It involves making irreversible changes in a random manner  to a complex level of life about which little is known.  It is inevitable that this hit-and-miss approach will lead to disasters.  It must disrupt the natural intelligence of the plant or animal to which it is appliled, and lead to health damaging side effects.”   Dr. Geoffrey, UK
