Since we graduated high school in 1994 (dang, we’re getting old!), we’ve made it a goal to read through the Bible every year. This time of year, we end up in the book of Revelation before renewing our commitment to do it all over again.
Some years, we just blow through the last book, not fully comprehending everything because of all the end-time prophecies. But this year, given the current sociopolitical context of the sexual revolution, the “great harlot” in Revelation 17 jumped off the pages at us.
Check out Verses 1-2: “Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, ‘Come here, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed acts of immorality and those who dwell on the earth were made drunk with the wine of her immorality’” (Revelation 17:1-2).
When I (David) read that, I instantly thought of the radical sexual revolution that is forcing its agenda on the entire world today, in addition to all the recent exposure of sexual misconduct throughout society among the elites.
It seems as if there’s no sphere of culture or civil society that has not been affected by this immoral “spirit of the age.”
Interestingly, Verse 5 of Chapter 17 says, “… The waters which you saw where the harlot sits are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.” In other words, this spirit of immorality perverts and pollutes the entire earth – there is no place it cannot touch.
Just look around. We now have websites, like “TransKids,” selling prosthetic penises for young “trans” girls to wear between their legs. You can buy them in small, medium or large.
We have drag-queens dressed as demons reading to our children in public libraries:
We have gender unicorns teaching our kids to question their gender and sexuality by asking themselves, “Who do I go to be with?” and “Who do I go to bed as?”
We see Hollywood and political elites across the board being exposed for treating women like pieces of meat. Unfortunately, few people are drawing the connection between Hollywood’s perversion of women on the screen and the reality of it lived out off screen.
We have an ever-changing alphabet soup of sexual-licentiousness, like Canada’s LGGBDTTTIQQAAPP “inclusiveness” training for school children in Ontario, where they ridiculously claim half of the public secretly identifies as lesbian, gay, genderqueer, bisexual, demisexual, transgender, transsexual, twospirit, intersex, queer, questioning, asexual, allies, pansexual and polyamorous.
And these stories don’t even scratch the surface of the amount of pornography being consumed in the world. Statistics show 91,980,225,000 porn videos were viewed in 2016. That’s 12.5 videos per human being on earth!
To break it down even further, in 2016 alone, 4,599,000,000 hours of porn were viewed, which breaks down to 191,625,000 days of porn consumed – in one year!
The “great harlot” in Revelation 17 is perverting and polluting the earth.
And then there’s the unbreakable link between pornography and human trafficking, which is today’s global slavery. Studies reveal that the sale of humans is growing faster than both the drug and weapons industries with the average victim between the ages of 12-14.
Our children are being targeted! This foul spirit hates everything about God and desires to pollute the earth, especially our kids, with her immorality.
It matters not to the two of us that we’ll probably be called “haters” for talking like this, or falsely accused of saying sexually confused people are powered by demons. But the truth of the matter is that we believe Revelation 17 reveals the sexually immoral spirit of our age (the great harlot) that is polluting the earth today.
The good news is that this demonic spirit does not have ultimate authority, as the Lord encourages His people in 18:4, saying, “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues.” We can choose to walk uprightly today, through the power of Jesus, despite the demonic influence of immorality in our culture.
And more good news is that this foul spirit does not have the last word, as the Lord shows the great harlot’s final destiny, saying, “For this reason, in one day her plagues will come, pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her is strong.”
Our God is strong enough to rescue all of those who place their faith in His son, Jesus, from the spirit of the age today. We do not have to fall victim to the foul spirit of the great harlot mentioned in Revelation 17.
Now it’s time to get back to Genesis 1.
