Society Commits Suicide When It Embraces Atheism

001“Everything is indeed permitted if God does not exist, and man is in consequence forlorn, for he cannot find anything to depend upon either within or outside himself. . .Nor, on the other hand, if God does not exist, are we provided with any values or commands that could legitimize our behavior.” Jean Paul Sartre

Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of God.  In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities, period.

The atheistic community is anything but a ‘live and let live’ market place of ideas. Their ultimate goal is to censure those who espouse any religious beliefs, especially Christianity, and persecute those beliefs into extinction.

If you accept the atheistic argument that God does not exist,  you must also accept that  no higher standard for human behavior exists other than human opinion, genetics,  and subjective inclination.  In the atheistic  world anything goes –  animalistic impulses rule.

Sam Harris in his 2004 book “The End of Faith” wrote that he supported atheism as the only rational view of the world, condemning all forms of religious faith, especially Christianity, as detrimental and potentially dangerous.  He went so far as to suggest that some militant Muslim beliefs were so “dangerous” that it would be “ethical to kill the people” who held to those beliefs.  Christianity to Harris was also a  “dangerous belief that should be quelled at all cost,” including punishing those who espouse it.  To Harris, religious belief is nothing more than mental illness which “allows otherwise normal human beings to reap the fruits of madness and consider them holy.”  He argued that there may be “sanity in numbers”, but that it is “merely an accident of history that it is considered normal to believe that a “Creator of the universe can hear your prayers, while it is demonstrative of mental illness to believe that he is communicating with you by having the rain tap in Morse code on your bedroom window.”

Unfortunately, in today’s world, we are beginning to experience the encroachment of atheistic animalistic morality in society.   Children are murdering children. The slaughter of unborn babies is no longer  shameful or unethical, prompting some on the left to call for  the right to murder children up to the age of three.  Teaching the Word of God is, in some places, considered hate speech. Traditional religious holidays are  replaced by secularism. Expression of faith has been outlawed in public schools as the left indoctrinate our children in the joys of homosexuality.  The left’s objective of a society where pleasure is the only intrinsic good is fast coming reality.

History should remind us of what  atheistic societies are capable of – the murder of millions in the name of Socialism, Marxism or Communism. The estimated death toll combining Hitler, Stalin, Mao Zedong, the Khmer Rouge, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Ethiopia, etc. ranges from 149.9 million to 200 million people slaughtered. and for what end?

Our founders insisted that government must be established on unchanging moral principles that transcend opinions and feelings, derived from and based upon the unchanging laws of God – “the laws of nature and of nature’s God.”

Alexander Hamilton insisted “that law. . .dictated by God Himself is, of course, superior in obligation to any other. . .It is binding over all the glove, in all countries, and at all times.. .”  Noah Webster observed that “our citizens should early understand that the genuine source of correct republican principles is the Bible, particularly the New Testament, or the Christian religion.”

Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence said “The only foundation for a useful education in a republic is to be aid in religion.  Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue that can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments.”  James Wilson, another signer of the Constitution and a U.S. Supreme Court Justice said that “Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is divine. . .Far from being rivals or enemies, religion and law are twin sisters, friends, and mutual assistants. . .”

George Washington, Father of our nation said “Religion and morality are the essential pillars of civil society.”   Benjamin Franklin said that “only a virtuous people are capable of freedom.  As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”  (Quotes From the Founding Fathers)

Society commits suicide when it discards morality in favor of animalistic behavior.

When a Republic bases itself on moral relativism and when it considers every ethical principle or value to be negotiable, it is already on its way to totalitarianism.  The might of right quickly becomes might makes right!
