The Left Wants To Get All Money Out of Politics?

To err is human. To blame someone else is politics.” Hubert H. Humphrey

During the presidential campaign of 2016, the left and the drive-by media went all out in an attempt to identify “right-wing” big money as the root of all evil in politics.  Bernie Sanders attempted to tie this “evil” to the Koch brothers backed up by the NY Times claim that “the families investing the most in presidential politics overwhelmingly lean right.”  They are using the same tactics this year.

Pardon the express but what a crock! The top donors to presidential campaigns do not overwhelmingly lean right, in fact, the majority are far left or libertarian, or both.

The Koch brothers are libertarians and while they do support some GOP candidates their agenda is anything but conservative.   They support open borders without consideration for national security, unfettered free trade, abortion, gay rights, and amnesty.  Their idea for criminal justice reform was even backed by Obama and George Soros.

Paul Singer, a hedge fund operator and GOP donor supports a strong Israel while also promoting homosexual marriage.   Sheldon Adelson, a major GOP donor who operates the Las Vegas Sands promotes support for Israel while also endorsing amnesty for illegals.  Even Trump has, in the past, funded campaigns of both Democrats and Republicans.

Bill Gates donates far more to far-left Democrats than to Republicans.  He supports gun control, amnesty, abortion, a global tax to generate revenue for the U.N., Common Core, and a swathe of government regulations to protect the environment from that dreaded global warming.  In the past Gates has praised the state dominated Chinese economy as “a brand-new form of capitalism,” and commended the tightly controlled and oppressed Chinese working class for their “willingness to work hard” without western benefits.   He has also made use of the H-1B visa program that not only allows his company to hire foreign workers at lower wages but to displace 18,000 American workers  in the process.

Another politically active billionaire who supports left-wing causes and candidates is Warren Buffett.  Buffett, who urges higher taxes on the wealthy and castigates his fellow super wealthy class for taking advantage of legal tax loopholes,  has no problem taking advantage of the same tax loopholes to cut his tax bill or funding the move of Burger King Worldwide to Canada to participate in the very tax dodge he claims to “oppose.”    He supports and funds gun control, abortion, amnesty and has even expressed his admiration for Socialist Bernie Sanders.  In addition, 46 of the 75 newspapers that he had purchased by 2014 were strategically located in the crucial swing states of Iowa, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida

The Walton family, of Walmart fame, has traditionally donated to Republicans but that doesn’t make them conservative.  Alice Walton, daughter of Walmart’s founder donated to a political action committee that backed Hillary Clinton’s presidential run.  The Walton Foundation also supports left-wing causes and organizations.

Larry Ellison, the 5th richest person on the planet, cofounder of Oracle Corporation,  while bankrolling Republicans also supports some of the most left-wing Democrats around along with their special interest groups.    A staunch supporter of free trade with China, Oracle is also an active force in lobbying for the expansion of the H-1B worker visa program.  Donnie Fowler, a Democratic strategist, claims that Ellison is the Donald Trump of the Silicon Valley, from the way Oracle operates, to the way he runs the America’s Cup to his political contributions.  Along with pushing electric cars, Ellison has suggested that he wants to turn a Hawaiian island he owns into a ‘little laboratory’ for experimenting for a more environmentally sustainable ways to live.

No article would be complete without mentioning Michael Bloomberg, a left-wing progressive who has donated more than $5 billion to gun control, climate change and other left-wing causes.  In the 1990s Bloomberg’s support went to Democrats exclusively but by the early 2000s he had switched to mostly Republican candidates and causes.  However, after the 2012 election cycle his more radical side emerged especially on issues involving abortion and gun control and he hasn’t slowed down yet.

Then, of course there is George Soros!

Despite the rantings of the 2016 and 2020 Democratic candidates attempting to label Republican donors  as the evil of all that is political, evidence is more than sufficient to put that “evil” on the side of the far-left candidates, their donors and causes embraced by the Democratic Party.

“The leftists are constantly whining and moaning about all the money in politics. They want campaign finance reform, right? They want to get all the money out of politics. They want government money governing campaigns. They want all the money out, they say. But then you look at their coffers, and it’s overflowing with hundreds of millions of dollars.”  Rush Limbaugh
