The far-left and their allies, on both sides of the isle, have spent the last three years trying to paint Trump and his supporters as racists, bigots, homophobes, Islamophobes, xenophobes, fascists and neo-Nazis, to name but a few. While I don’t believe the majority of Americans are as stupid as the left hopes them to be, words do have power. The left is playing a dangerous game. While words can’t change reality, they certainly can change how people perceive reality.
Perhaps that it why it has always struck me as rather odd that the left’s attempt to shut down opposition is to accuse those that disagree with them of hate speech – by using hate speech. Of course, with the left, hate speech is doctrine. Obscene, vicious, dishonest, defamatory, hate-filled rhetoric is all they have left.
Their efforts to silence the right with accusations of hate speech ran into a brick wall when newly elected Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar went off the deep end spewing a litany of hateful, anti-Semitic remarks, which she has persisted in. Her mouth put an embarrassing spotlight on the growing, naked anti-Semitism among the left.
There were a few democrats who were brave enough to call for a resolution against her and a strongly worded resolution was drafted by Representative Jamie Raskin of MD condemning anti-Semitism. But it didn’t survive long.
Left-wing Democrats edited the Resolution repeatedly and what began as a condemnation of anti-Semitism became so generic that it lost its significance. Anti-Muslim bias was tossed in followed by white supremacy. By the time it ended, the Resolution cited “African-Americans, Native Americans, and other people of color, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, immigrants and others victimized by “white supremacists” who have “exploited bigotry and “weaponized hate for political gain.”
The threat from white supremacists lives largely in the fevered minds of leftist conspiracy theorists egged on with fundraising appeals by groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Someone please tell me how “white supremacists” have gained politically anywhere in recent decades? Anyone who is white and believes in our nation is now called a white nationalist and equated with neo-Nazis and the KKK. Of course anyone who doesn’t happen to be white but does believe in our nation and its founding principles and traditions now gets lumped in also. In other words, you no longer have to be white to be a white supremacist.
The edited version of Resolution 183 made no mention of anti-Semitism by Muslims within the Democratic Party such as Omar’s most outrageous statements parroting the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” narrative that Jews are evil and control the world with money. The Resolution also did not make mention of those on the left who push the Boycott, Divest, Sanction (BDS) movement that is attempting to financially destroy Israel, or the unprovoked attacks by Antifa, or the many instances of Islamic terrorism since 9-11 that has claimed 159 lives and injured 503 innocent people in the U.S.
While some Republicans mocked its all-inclusive approach and a few veteran Jewish Democrats were upset at the changes to the Resolution, every Democrat and all but 23 Republicans voted for it which should tell you something about the state of our legislative branch.
And even though a simple resolution doesn’t have the force of law, by making Resolution 183 all about white supremacy and Islamophobia, Democrats have set the stage for advancing their true goal – the silencing of all critics with hate speech and anti-blasphemy legislation.
