Four Years In A Bubble

010Anyone catch the Rebels Without A Clue recently terrorizing Seattle? They were out in their $500 sneakers and Gap clothing, deriding capitalism as they played with their IPhones. It isn’t a crime to be stupid, at least you can get past that, but these people prove that ignorance goes all the way to the bone.

Of course if they received their so-called intelligence from America’s left-leaning universities it is easy to see why they are so ignorant. American professors are generally more liberal or left-wing than the general population. In a University of Toronto survey of full-time professors at four year colleges across the U.S., 72% identified as liberal, 13% as moderate and 15% conservative. In Ivy League schools, 87% of professors identified as liberals.

Liberalism usually appeals to college students because it offers “ noble sounding ideas” to impressionable minds that have found their freedom from parental influence.   Our kids spend four years in a bubble isolated from the real world, being indoctrinated with liberal ideas. They can tell you how bad capitalism is, what an imperialist nation America is but, they can’t answer basic questions about our Constitution, our government, or our history, nor can they see how hypocritical it is to deride capitalism that paid for that four year education.

But you can’t blame it all on the universities.   For decades the left leaning public school system has promised to produce America’s best and brightest by endowing all students with critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, readings skills, writing skills, interpersonal skills and communication skills. The promises were false because those in charge of government run education had other plans.

The irony concerning the false promises of public education is that what is pouring forth from the schools are millions of humans bereft of an authentic education, lacking the very skills they promised. In fact, the opposite is actively taught by an army of ill-prepared, left-leaning educators, dominated by special interest groups with their own agenda.  Think “No Child Left Behind and the latest fiasco, Common Core.

Benjamin Bloom, professor emeritus in Education at the University of Chicago author of All Our Children Learning, pushes the ideathat “students should be taught to believe the same things, have the same values, and ignore what they are taught at home.” He also wrote that “the purpose of education is to change the thoughts, feelings and actions of students.”

Mary Joe Bane, Bill Clinton’s Assistant Secretary in the US Department of Health and Human Services once said that only government knew how to raise children. “If we want to talk about equality of opportunity for children, then the fact that children are raised in families means there’s no equality. . .In order to raise children with equality, we must take them away from families and communally raise them.”

William Benton, publisher of the Encyclopedia Britannica (1943-1973), in an address at UNESCO said “As long as the child breathes the poisoned air of nationalism, education in world-mindedness can produce only precarious results. . . .It is the family that infects the child with extreme nationalism. The school should therefore . . .combat family attitudes that favor jingoism. . .”

Paul Brandwein, a leading child psychologist wrote in The Social Sciences: Concepts and Values, that “every child who believes in God is mentally ill.”

John Dewey, the father of progressive education once said that “you can’t make socialists out of individualists. Children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society. . .where everyone is interdependent. He also believed that “there is no room for fixed and natural law or permanent moral absolutes.”

Leftist indoctrination, once saved for universities, is now pouring forth from government run schools. Our children are taught that America is the enemy, not the solution to the world’s problems.   Any child that doesn’t conform is diagnosed with ADHD or some other medical diagnosis requiring drugs. Reading and writing is no longer important as long as they understand that sex is good and experimental sex is even better. They are taught that they no longer need parents since government knows best. God is bad, abortion is good, we are the world, ad nauseum.

The public schools and the special interest groups behind them deny the two most important things that lie at the root of problems in education and the economy: the breakdown of the family and the loss of Christian values and morals. It causes great offense to government and to ideologues that Christian culture that shaped western civilization is the matrix in which the well-ordered family can thrive.

And after government is through indoctrinating innocent minds we send them off to college, the final nail in the coffin.

“The goal of education is no longer to teach the kind of literacy, wisdom and knowledge we once considered essential of responsible citizenship; it is to train world citizens, a compliant international workforce, willing to flow the storms of change and uncertainty.” Thomas Sowell
