Squirrels Seeking Nuts

02You might not be able to buy your way into heaven but former governor Michael Bloomberg is certain he can buy his way into the consciousness of voters.   Along with Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Everytown for Gun Safety, Bloomberg is now bankrolling ‘Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense in America’ (MDAG), a supposedly grassroots organization to bring ‘common sense’ gun control to America’s streets. Unfortunately most of the left’s grassroots organizations are anything but and this new group is no exception.

Shannon Watts as head of MDAG describes herself as a ‘stay at home mom’ who became an accidental activist shortly after the Sandy Hook shooting when her son had a panic attack in the theater because he was sure the “man next to him was holding a gun and he thought he was going to die.“   She started a Facebook page “One Million Moms for Gun Control” which was later changed to MDAG.

It is true that Watts was a stay at home mom but not in the conventional sense of a mom whose only job was keeping her home and raising her children. In 2008 Watts formed a public relations firm, operated from her home until 2012, with an impressive list of clients, many of whom she was already working with.    During 2010 she and her husband opened the Watts Fine Art Gallery in Zionville, Indiana, while she was working as a consultant for a large public relations firm. Watts previous clients included large several health insurance companies and Monsanto, the GMO giant, but they hold nothing to her current client Michael Bloomberg and his $32 billion.

Watts is not new to the political arena. According to her Linkedin biography, from 1993 to 1998 she was a public affairs officer for Missouri Governor Mel Carnahan, the Missouri House of Representatives and the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Mel Carnahan is a gun control advocate, endorsing limited handgun purchases to one a month, reporting gun sales to the police, requiring fingerprinting and photographing gun purchasers and requiring a permit to buy ammo.

With Bloomberg funding her lies and half-truths, Watts wants the world to believe that she is pro 2nd Amendment but nothing could be further from the truth.   In November 2013, Watts tweeted that she wants to “outlaw assault weapons” which she defined as a gun that “enables humans to shoot 10 rounds in one minute.” That pretty much covers everything but muzzle loaders! In another tweet Watts complained about the large number of licensed gun dealers.

Her MDAG facts page gives a link to the Violence Policy Center’s “Concealed Carry Killers” which is nothing more than scare tactics to convince readers into believing that armed citizens are blood thirsty savages bent on murder and mayhem.

Proving that truth is never the point, on CNN, she was asked about the NRA’s point that bad guys with guns are stopped by good guys with guns, Watt replied that “this has never happened. Data shows it doesn’t happen.” But the left’s usual hypocrisy was exposed during a small rally Watts lead outside the NRA Annual Meeting in April where she was seen protected by (gasp)armed bodyguards.

According to a National Review Online article in November, during an anti-gun rally in Dallas, Watts claimed that “like the Taliban” Open Carry Texas, pro-gun advocates who were counter-protesting, “could feasibly have planned to open fire,” suggesting that they were full of people who might rape the women involved in MDAG.

Just as Bloomberg has used falsified data and outright lies in his attempt to ban guns, Watts claims that since Newtown there have been 74 school shootings which would only be true if your definition of school shootings included crimes committed with a knife, or those that took place several blocks away from a school. A CNN investigation determined that there were only 20 involving either a “minor or adult actively shooting inside or near a school.”

In an op-ed at MSNBC, Watts claimed that her opposition was driving by her house, attempting to intimidate her into silence. But during an interview on ‘All In with Chris Hayes’ segment entitled ‘Gun Bullies’ we learn how truly delusional and paranoid Watts is when she said she was threatened by people “just looking at my house and what my address is.” She went on to say that “threatening the opposition is cowardly and un-American. It’s a way to circumvent Democracy. . .we cannot allow this ‘fringe’ to become mainstream.”

The only fringe here is Bloomberg, and his band of anti-gun nuts who want to turn law-abiding gun owners into criminals.
