The American Lung Association In Bed With EPA

AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION BOUGHT AND PAID FOR

At today’s House Energy and Commerce Committee mark-up of the Upton-Inhofe bill to strip EPA of its authority to regulate greenhouse gases, Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) tried to defend the EPA by offering a recent American Lung Association poll that purports to show public opinion favoring the EPA.

What Congress needs to know, however, is that the American Lung Association is bought-and-paid-for by the EPA. In the last 10 years, the EPA has given the ALA $20,405,655, according to EPA records.

The master-servant relationship between the EPA and ALA extends back to at least the early 1990s. As John Merline reported in Investors Business Daily (Jan. 28, 1997), between 1990 and 1995, the EPA gave the American Lung Association $5 million — even though the ALA was suing the EPA at the time. Although not many grantors give grants to organizations that sue them, at least in the regular world, the EPA likes to be sued by its buddies because such lawsuits invariably expand the agency’s powers.

So it’s not really surprising (or meaningful) that the ALA issued a poll supporting the EPA.

The EPA is now paying the American Lung Association to attack Republicans

The ALA put up four billboards like the one above near Rep. Fred Upton’s office in Michigan. Upton is the House Energy and Commerce Chairman. (PlowShareGroup).

It doesn’t matter that the EPA policies will cause your electricity rates to necessarily skyrocket. It’s all about fundamentally changing America.

The EPA-ALA relationship works something like this: EPA pays the ALA and, in return, the ALA agitates for more stringent EPA air quality regulation, including by lawsuit. Now it’s billboards.

In addition to defunding National Public Radio, the House GOP should look at the EPA’s funding of American Lung Association. Contacting Your Representatives Is A Must!

RAWSEP – Residents Against Wood Smoke Emissions Particulates

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Feb. 7 (UPI) — Danish, Dutch and French researchers say invisible particles released into the air as wood burns in fireplaces and woodstoves may harm health.

Researchers led by Steffen Loft of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark found particulate matter in the air from the center of a village in Denmark where most residents used woodstoves as well as pure woodstove particulate matter collected from a woodstove tended to be of the most potentially hazardous size — small enough to be inhaled into the deepest parts of the lungs.

The report, published in Chemical Research in Toxicology, found the woodstove polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons — including “probable” human carcinogens.

“Our results suggest that wood stove particulates matter are more toxic than rural background ambient air particulates per unit mass as measured by oxidative stress-associated damage, whereas ambient air particulates containing wood smoke-generated particulate matter generate effects that were in between those of pure woodstove particulates matter and rural background particulates,” the study says. What?

That cozy wood heat may cause you harm.

The report, published in Chemical Research in Toxicology, found the woodstove particulates from both sources contained higher levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons — including “probable” human carcinogens.

State of Washington- State Senate Bill SB5432 Wood Stoves Restricted

Background: Use of wood stoves, fireplaces, and other solid fuel burning devices in residences and commercial establishments is restricted. Persons with other adequate heat sources may not burn wood during a first stage of impaired air quality (fine particulates will exceed 35 micrograms per cubic meter for 24 hours, within 48 hours), as determined by the Department of Ecology (Ecology) or a local air authority, except that certain approved devices may be used; second stage of impaired air quality (fine particulates are at 25 micrograms per cubic meter for 24 hours, and conditions are not expected to improve for at least 24 hours or will worsen within 24 hours), as determined by Ecology or a local air authority; etc.

I’m waiting for the next genius’ study titled, “How Human Gas Passage Disrupts The Environment”, or “Human Gas Impairs Air Quality”, or “Human Gas Causes Explosions Near Fire, Expel With Caution”.  CAN’T WAIT TO SEE HOW THIS BILL WOULD BE WORDED!
