Watching Obama UnRavel

obc1“The White House sits in a city that has become addicted to its own adrenaline. It is in a perpetual swivet stoked by media for which every inter-institutional dust-up is a crisis.” George F. Wills, ‘How a President Unravels’

Rep. Steve Scalise, R-LA, in describing Obama’s apology [?] for millions of canceled insurance policies that he claimed you could keep, said:  “Obama is like someone who burns down your house. Then shows up with an empty water bucket. Then lectures you about how defective the house was.”

Obama’s creative ObamaCare “fix” is surreal.  He gives you permission to reoccupy your house — if you can get someone to rebuild it — but for only another year.

A new CNN poll serves to confirm what America’s collective gut has been saying for weeks:  ObamaCare is sinkings Obama.  The numbers are ugly.  Only one in four think Obama is a competent manager of the government.  The bottom line:  Obama has suffered a signature event that has convinced a majority of Americans that he is unfit for the job.  And there are plenty of reasons to believe he will not bounce back to any significant degree.  The website can be fixed in time but the damage is done and no amount of “fixing” or rebranding or reselling is going to change America’s perception of ObamaCare  or Obama.

To begin understanding Obama’s unraveling you need to refer to page 274 of “The Bridge: The Life and Rise of Barack Obama,” by David Remnick, editor of the New Yorker, who quoted Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s longest-serving socialist ideological soul mate.

According to Jarrett, Obama  “knows exactly how smart he is. … I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually. … He’s been bored to death his whole life. He’s just too talented to do what ordinary people do. He would never be satisfied with what ordinary people do.”

Leaving  aside the question of whether someone so smitten can be in any meaningful sense an adviser, it is  fair to note that what ordinary people ordinarily do is their jobs, competently.   Obama’s inability to be satisfied with anything so banal has plunged him into Jimmy Carter territory.

Obama’s narcissist personality demands he exaggerate his accomplishments, his talents, his superiority, his uniqueness.  After all, narcissist require excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation which he has found in Valerie Jarrett, ‘She Who Must Be Obeyed.’

Jarrett’s job is to make Obama feel proud of himself – she is his alter ego – his mirror.   According to Karen McQuillan at the American Thinker, Valerie  creates the White House bubble Obama lives in, where his narcissism is stroked and his desire to do the big, left-wing thing is encouraged.

That narcissist stroking might well be his downfall.

“Obama runs the presidency as if his main job, his only job, is rhetoric and political, to shore up the base, to make speeches.  It’s all rhetoric.  He’s got a crisis of management –  He’s got a system that doesn’t work.  ObamaCare is his signature legislation.  It’s sort of the heart, the symbol of the embodiement of his idea of a careing, progressive central government.  It’s a mess.  He’s conducted his presidency on rhetoric – and he perpetuates it.”  Charles Krauthammer
