Racism is Racism, No Matter Who Pushes It

Cartoonist Gary Varvel: Eric Holder resigns the DOJGood men crave justice but there can be no justice without the canopy of enlightened law to govern us, laws that are no respecter of persons, laws that everyone must obey from the highest in government to the lowest in society.

Critical Race Theory contends that White America is permanently racist to its core, making the nation’s legal structure racist and therefore, invalid. CTR also holds that there is an unspoken pact with Whites to deliberately keep blacks on the bottom, and that traditional ideals such as equal opportunity and colorblind justice are empty slogans that fail to acknowledge the existence of inequities that pervade our society and work against the black community.

This very theory is what lead J. Christian Adams, a former attorney with the Justice Department to describe our former Attorney General, Eric Holder, as “the first Attorney General to whom law seemed to be an option,  a suggestion on the way to a progressive future.” To Holder, justice wasn’t blind, it just wore rose colored glasses.

In hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2013, Holder said that hate crime laws were only designed to protect Blacks, Hispanics, Jews, and gays “historically” targeted for violence. Really?    According to the Justice Department’s own statistics, only 10% of the 650,000 violent interracial crimes committed each year involve whites attacking blacks. Holder also contended that black men were disproportionately imprisoned. Let’s look at the facts!

In New York from January to June 2008, 83% of all gun assailants were black, though blacks made up only 24% percent of the population. Blacks and Hispanics together accounted for 98% of all gun assailants. Out of all the muggings and murders in the Big Apple, 49 of every 50 were the work of black or Hispanic criminals. During the first 6 months of 2013, 74% of the city’s 567 shooting victims were black, 21% Hispanic, and less than 3% of shooting victims were white. Blacks also accounted for the majority – about 70% – of the 222 people arrested for shooting someone according to the NYPD’s Crime and Enforcement Activity report.

According to FBI figures for 2007, blacks, while outnumbered 5 to 1 in the population by whites, committed 433,934 crimes against whites, 8 times the 55,685 crimes committed by whites against blacks. Interracial rape is almost exclusively black on white with 14,000 assaults on white women. Not one case of a white sexual assault on a black female was found in the FBI study.

William Stuntz, a Harvard Law Professor, in his book “The Collapse of American Criminal Justice” wrote that between 1976 and 2005 blacks committed more than half of all murders in the United States. Blaming this decades long, well documented trend on racists cops, prosecutors, judges, sentencing guidelines, and drug laws doesn’t cut it as a plausible explanation.

The truth is that you are where you are in your life because of the choices you make. One of the key determinants of how we perform in life is not necessarily defined by what happens to us but by the way we respond to challenges that life throws at us.

The left loves citing racism as evidence of how unjust and immoral White America is because it’s easier to divide the nation than it is to offer solutions to rectify the problems their policies have created. Racism is racism, no matter who plays the card.
