It’s The Oldest Story in Politics

If you’ve been disgusted by the atrocities in China, thank American politicians.  They helped make the Chinese Communist Party what it is today.

In his book, Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win, Peter Schweizer writes that “rather than go toe-to-toe…China is going to effectively decapitate us by buying off our political leadership. And they’ve had a lot of success in doing this with people in both political parties.”

Neither party’s hands are clean.  Democrats and Republicans, men and women, in very sensitive positions have essentially been co-opted by the Chinese. These are people with security clearances and intimate knowledge of operations of the government and China is leveraging them for information.

That is not to say that these people are leaking secret classified reports but it does speak to the regime’s unique access to American priorities and personnel.  They are getting information on big issues that will help them to defeat us; information about Wall Street, technology and trade.  And they’ve gone a long way thanks to panderers at Google and Microsoft who are literally subsidizing the artificial intelligence in China’s labs for their military.

China’s most valuable assets are people who served in our government, i.e. former members of Congress, former CIA and DOJ employees, former military officers, former secretaries of Defense and State.  When they leave office a good number become lobbyists for firms connected to the Chinese military or intelligence linked companies.  Think about it – these people are getting paid, in some cases, a million dollars a year, to lobby in D.C. for Chinese state-owned companies.  These are top U.S. officials; people like John Boehner, Henry Kissinger, Condoleezza Rice, members of the Bush family, to name but a few.

Then, of course, there are the Democrats presently in office like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, and President Joe Biden, whose ties to China should be triggering coast-to-coast outrage.

Why do you think Pelosi refused to hold hearings on the origins of COVID?  Could it be because her family “has done a lot of business in China since the outbreak?” If you look at Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, or Senator Mitch McConnell, a Republican of Kentucky, in both instances, their families, their extended families have received hundreds of millions of dollars in deals from Beijing.”

McConnell’s ties to China are due to his father-in-law’s shipping business which shares a close financial relationship with Chinese owned companies like the China State Shipbuilding Corporation.

Also contained within the book is a treasure trove of bombshells about elected Republicans, including former President George H.W. Bush whose ties to China reportedly began before he even became Vice President to Ronald Reagan, and flourished once he took office in 1989.  HW’s brother Prescott met with Chinese officials in Beijing in February 1989, just days before the president was set for an official visit.

Prescott’s visit helped close the deal to build a golf club in Shanghai for Non-Chinese business executives when they were visiting the country.  He also met with Chinese officials, on that same trip, to push for the creation of a communications network across China, hoping to secure the deal on behalf of New York-based Asset Management International Financing and Settlement Ltd. which had been paying him $250,000 a year.”   Months later, “Bush Sr. lifted U.S. restrictions on exporting satellite technologies to China — a boon for Prescott’s client, Asset Management.”

Prescott also reportedly launched the U.S.-China Chamber of Commerce, “which exists to this day and has sought to further tether the U.S. economy to China.”

Schweizer’s book also lists connections between China and former Speaker John Boehner, former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, along with former Senators and Congressmen.  “Oftentimes,” he writes, “these deals come through family members, through a spouse or through a spouse’s family. If you are friendly to Beijing, or they want to ‘capture’ you, as it were, they will give you very, very lucrative deals that can make you enormously wealthy.”

Schweizer is correct when he says that we have a lack of character and moral guidance among politicians that supposedly serve this country and when they leave office, they spend a lifetime cashing in by doing “sweetheart deals and aiding and abetting Beijing in their competition with us.”  Try doing that in China.

At the end of the day, this isn’t a red or blue issue, Schweizer points out. “It’s a green issue, because — again — it’s very lucrative.”

With stakes as high as these, Americans need to choose: you can either serve our country in a sensitive position and be entrusted with information that the average person doesn’t have, or you can work for our rival. But you can’t do both. And the sooner our public policy reflects that, the more secure our future will be.
