Land Grab

Private Property Owners Beware!

White House officials have been quietly meeting across country with environmental groups. Their aim is to aquire untold millions of acreage, both public and private land. It’s another strategic power grab to radically transform the American way of life through executive order…….the ‘Great Outdoors Initiative’.

Obama issued a memorandum in April outlining his 21st century strategy addressed to the Interior Secretery, the Agriculture Secretery, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Council on Environmental Quality. The memo calls on the officials to conduct ‘listening and learning sessions‘, with the public to ‘identify the places that means the most to Americans, then leverage the support of the federal government ‘to protect’ outdoor spaces. Obama’s memo boasted, the federal government is the nation’s largest land manager, owning approximately 1 out of every 3 acres in the United States.  Out of 25 planned sessions; 18 have already been held.

In New Hampshire last week, the government bureaucrats have their eye on millions of private forest land throughout the New England region. Agriculture Secretery, Tom Vilsack – crusaded for the need for additional attention to the Land and Water Conservative Fund – and the need to promptlysupport full funding of that fund.” The Land and Water Conservative Fund (LWCF), is a pet project of green radicals, who want the government slush fund, used for buying up private lands, to be freed fromCongressional appropriations oversight. (It is funded with receipts from government’s offshore oil and gas leases.) The Senate and House, both have included $900 million in full LWCF funding, not subjected to congressionalapproval, in their energy/BP oil spill packages. Harry Reid is trying to incorporate similar legislation in his so-called energy act. Democrats also included a provision that would require the federal government to take over energy permitting in state waters. This provoked an outcry from state officials in Texas who protested last month: “In light of federal failures, it is incomprehensible that the U. S. Congress is entertaining proposals that expand federal authority over oil and gas drilling in state water and lands, long regulated by states…Given the track record, putting the federal government in charge of energy productions on state land and waters, not only breaks years of successful precedent and threatens the 10th Amendment to the Unites States Constitution, but it also undermines common sense and threatens the environmental and economy security of our states’ citizens.”

According to the 21 page Obama memo, 17 energy-rich areas in 11 states have been targeted as potential federal monuments. Protecting wildlife would be elevated above state’s needs for jobs, tourism and energy solutions.

Under the 1906 Antiquities Act, the Obama administration is considering locking up 380,000 acrea of Bureau of Land Management land, and private  land in the state of Colorado. Mining, hunting, grazing, oil and gas development and recreational activities would be closed in the Vermillion Basin and the Alpine Triangle. Colorado Farm Bureau’s president, Alan Foutz, blasted the administration’s meddling, “Deer and Elk populations are thriving, and we in Colorado don’t need help from the federal government in order to manage them effectively.”

Bureaucrats behind Obama’s ‘Great Outdoor Initiative’ plan on wrapping up public comment solicitation by November 15th. The initiative’s taxpayer-funded website is dominated by left-wing environmental activist proposing; human population reduction, private property confiscation, gun bans, hunting bans and vehicle bans in national parks.

Nearly 30% of the 2.63 million square miles of the United States is directly owned by the federal government. This land is primarily located in the West…..69.1% in Alaska, 84% of Nevada and more than half of both Utah and Idaho. Other states such as California, Arizona, Wyoming, Oregon, New Mexico and Colorado have from 36.6% to 53.1% of their land allocated to the federal government. So why is new legislation making it’s way through the House and Senate to create a permanent Trust Fund for the purpose of acquiring more land?

Another land grab effort is an act called, “Americas Commitment to Clean Water Act” which is a Corps of Engineers & Environmental Protection Agency authorization to control every drop of water in the nation. This new bill would include wetlands and everywhere water is found. Farmers and Ranchers would not be the only ones effected, even your backyard if it puddles after a rainstorm. (Just so you know, Carol Browner, the president’s chief advisor “czar” on environmental and energy is a former high ranking member of Socialist International.) Suprised? This is really a bad legislation,” warns Rep. Ron Paul, “It allows the Executive Branch to have powers that are constitutionally directed to Congress. So this bill not only dimishes private property, it also erodes the Constitutional separation of powers.”
