The effort to ratify the United Nation’s Law of the Sea Convention has been a long-term goal for Obama and his leftist cronies, including John Podesta, a member of the Joint Ocean Commission Initiative, (JOCI) and George Soros.
When Podesta joined the JOCI he said that he was “delighted to be joining the Global Ocean Commission” which he saw a means to develop “common sense” ways to manage 45% of the globe that “remains common property outside of national jurisdiction.” The JOCI is pushing for global policy regulating US coastal waters and the great lakes as well as new regulations on the Clean Water Act.
The JOCI is a key partner of Citizens for Global Solutions (CGS), which according to its literature, envisions a “future in which nations work together to abolish war. . .and solve the problems facing humanity that no nation can solve alone.” In layman’s terms, we need a world government. CGS, in turn, is a member organization and U.S. branch of the World Federalist Movement that unabashedly seeks a one-world government.
Obama recently told the West Point graduating class that the Senate must ratify the UN treaty because “we cannot exempt ourselves from the rules that apply to everyone.” Why not? Obama exempts himself from following federal law. Without the treaty, he claimed it was hard to solve maritime disputes (with China) and our national security will suffer. Who does he think he is fooling? Does anyone really think a piece of paper is going to stop China or Russia?
Kerry is all in, but you had to know that. You’ve probably heard him subbing for Big Al, preaching the global warming lie. He even held a State Department “oceans” conference where he claimed we needed the treaty to fight “carbon pollution” which is “one of the greatest threats facing not just our ocean but our entire planet.” Get real! One of the biggest threats is the passage of this treaty which will give radical environmental groups and third world countries the power to sue the U.S. over fake environmental claims. Kerry even invited a well-known respected global warming scientists, Leo DiCaprio, (I bet you thought he was just an actor) to assure the audience that we are indeed destroying oceans because we refuse to cede our sovereignty to some third world bureaucracy.
The U.N. Law of the Sea Convention would give control to over 71% of the Earth’s surface to some faceless bureaucrats of the International Seabed Authority tasked with collecting taxes from U.S. citizens in direct violation of the Constitution. In addition, U.S. energy companies would not only be forced to comply with global environmental rules, but pay a part of their royalties on oil and gas to the Seabed Authority who, in turn, would redistributes U.S. money to “developing states” and landlocked nations including some that are corrupt, undemocratic and even sponsors of terrorism. Even more harm would come from having the United Nations regulate deep-sea exploration in U.S. waters.
U.S. law decrees that the mineral resources on and below the surface of the continental shelf are held by the government for the benefit of the American people. Given the potentially massive mineral, oil and gas reserves on the U.S. extended continental shelf (200 miles out), giving authority to the U.N. to regulate development would be a disaster.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that this treaty would also force U.S. companies to share information and developed technology with no authority over who gets it. Then there is the new international tribunal (court) with limitless authority to deal with maritime issues which would override U.S. law, our courts and our Constitution.
Last time I checked we elected a president to serve America’s interest, not the worlds. Signing this treaty is not in the best interest of the U.S.
