The Plot to Demonize Christians

Religious freedom is a nation’s strongest guarantee against tyranny.  It is also the first target that tyrants attack.  The more they succeed in destroying Christianity and the freedoms guaranteed thereto by the First Amendment, the more they succeed in ending freedom, period.

This plot to demonize Christians began in earnest during the Obama reign when it was discovered that the Department of Defense was teaching American soldiers that Catholics, orthodox Jews, and evangelical Christians were to be considered “religious extremists;” comparing them to al-Qaeda, the KKK and Hamas.   The war continues today as Christians are continually portrayed as violent domestic terrorists by the government and its henchmen. The escalation of animosity can no longer be ignored.

The shooting earlier this year at a private Christian academy in Nashville by a transgender with a detailed manifesto is a chilling example of the escalating violence against Christians.  It was disheartening to see so-called journalist, columnists, entertainers and activists direct their ire toward Christians rather than mourn the victims or condemn the shooter. They mocked our faith and blamed the victims.

Last year a team of so-called scholars, faith leaders and advocates released a report they claimed proved that Christian nationalism, the belief that the US is a Christian nation, was used to bolster, justify and intensify the January 6 “attack” on the capital.  The report written chiefly by Andrew Seidel of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, was released by the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty.

Georgetown University’s Center on Faith and Justice later joined with the Baptist Joint Committee to host an event titled How White Christian Nationalism Threatens our Democracy.  I guess it’s not reasonable to expect a university to know the U.S. is a Republic.

An article in The Atlantic, How Extremist Gun Culture Is Trying to Co-opt the Rosary by Daniel Panneton, claimed that the AR-15 has become a “sacred object” to Christian nationalists and that the rosary could also become something “dangerously evil.”  Daniel is also scared of the website Roman Catholic Gear because it is “dedicated to offering battle-ready products and manuals to stand firm against the tactics of the devil.” He was also freaked out by a video series on manhood produced by the Knights of Columbus called Into the Breach because among “radical-traditional Catholic men” such concerns can take an “extremist turn, rooted in fantasies of defending one’s family and church from marauders.”

There is also a book intitled The Flag and the Cross: White Christian Nationalism and the Threat to Democracy in which Philip Gorski and Samuell Perry write that “white Christian nationalism has animated the oppression, exclusion, and even extermination of minority groups while securing privilege for white Protestants.”

Anti-Christian sentiment has existed for some time but has been amplified by a culture that seeks to undermine traditional values and beliefs.  This crusade is fueled by a radical left that refuses to engage in respectful discourse, opting instead for hateful rhetoric and dehumanizing tactics.

It is as Tucker Carlson told an Ohio crowd earlier this month: Our mere existence as faithful Christians and reliance on God has upset an earthly order of power led by corrupt people who desire worldly satisfaction devoid of God.  It unbalances them so much they’re even willing to kill for it.  Your faith in something bigger represents a threat to their power.
